Yorkland cooperated with Youth without Shelter (YWS) to organize a volunteer activity on November 22nd, 2018. YWS is an emergency residence and referral agency serving homeless youth. It is dedicated to providing shelter and support programs for homeless youth ages 16-24. The activity which our students attended was called Brown Bag It. It was organized by our nutrition course and Youth without shelter together. The students of the nutrition course prepared sandwiches, cookies and other needed things. All the things were donated to YWS, and then YWS distributed to people who live in the shelter. In addition, a specialist with the YWS came in and held a workshop with our classes. The event enriched the school life and helped the students better understand Canadian society.
